The Last BlogCarnival: 35th Carnival of Making REAL Money for November-December 2009

This is the 35th Blog Carnival for Making REAL Money, and it’s the last in its current form (more later). Why? Simply, I’m tired of raking through 490 submissions to this Carnival, the vast majority of which are not suitable, repetitive submissions, and promotional junk. This was intended to give bloggers a space to promote their blogging passion for investing. Unfortunately, it turned into a free-for-all for all manner of spam, self-promotions, etc. As a result, I’m proud to present only the top 14 posts for this last carnival, the top 3% of the submissions for this carnival. Congratulations to you, one and all!

Recommended Articles

Both of these articles present interesting viewpoints and challenge our ideas about making money, so I’ve decided to recommend these articles to readers.

Brandt Smallwood presents Think and Invest Like Warren Buffett: Are We In the Eye of the Storm? posted at Value Investing and Other Warren Buffett Techniques, saying, “he economy is currently in the midst of a recovery, however, because of the “buyers are high, sellers are low” effect, the stock market has been climbing too high too quickly. Thus, within the next few weeks, we should expect to see a correction effect, in which the economy sinks back down to a more sustainable level. No need to fear, though, for the method of value investing already takes this type of “emotion driven” effect into account, and your true value investments will, in the long run, be profitable.”

Glendon Cameron presents A Inside View of the Storage Unit Auction Business | posted at A Inside View of the Storage Unit Auction Business, saying, “I was a storage auction junkie for six years, can you dig it?”

However, there is a form of protection that works towards investments from stocks to real estate to protect you personally from losses beyond what you put in. If you use leverage this is important… In other investments, there is usually not as much overlap. However you probably want to learn a lot about forming a business entity…”

34th Carnival of Making REAL Money for August 2009

This is the 34th edition of the Carnival of Making Money Online. I’m delighted to offer this limited list of top quality articles that are vetted from the original list of submissions. It’s always a pleasure to read through these submissions.

So enjoy, and thrive in summer 2009~! It seems my reputation is getting around! I screen posts rigorously for spammers, non-blogs, repetitive entrants… So out of over 220 entrants, I am presenting the top 10% of submissions to this month’s Carnival of Making REAL Money. We’ve decided to look at two very interesting discussions of popular beliefs, and are presenting these as our featured items for this month.

Feature Articles

  • There is a lot of speculation about the inflation/deflation situation at the moment and many are heralding the return of hyperinflation in the US and UK, but Silver Investor disagrees and makes an interesting case that Debt Doesn’t Always Mean Inflation: Remember Japan posted at Gold Investing Info, saying, “The mammoth amount of government debt about to be issued does not guarantee inflation is inevitable.”
  • Go to school, do well, get a good job? That’s what your parents taught you, right? Well, KCLau presents Why the worse classmates are wealthier than you? posted at KCLau’s Money Tips, saying, “Discusses if there is a correlation between academic success and financial well-being”. What’s your take on this topic?

Investments

If you are putting your money in the bank or lending it, it’s wise to increase the amount you put away. Both nickel highlights ways to Reinvest Automatically With Lending Club posted at fivecentnickel.com in which he says, “Regular reinvestment is an important part of maximizing your Lending Club returns”; and Tom Drake describes how to Use Your Raise To Increase Your Savings | The Canadian Finance Blog posted at The Canadian Finance Blog, saying, “By simply increasing your savings by the amount of your raises, you can quickly build up a nest egg without noticing any change in your lifestyle or spending habits.”

In the world of investments, Banker Saver asks us How Safe Is Your Retirement Fund? posted at Banker Saver, saying, “We discuss just how safe our 401ks and retirement funds really are,” while Heather presents Special Report: 401(k) Plans, ETFs and You | ETF Trends posted at ETF Trends, saying, “Your 401(k) is killing you. What’s the solution?” With these contrarian views, Carlos Sera suggests A Large Tale; Turn on the Air posted at Financial Tales, saying, “This tale is very short and has one purpose and one purpose only. It is to recommend that when you work with an advisor that you meet face to face with the advisor and preferably in your home.”

In purchasing stockes, puneetkapoor2000 presents THE ART OF SELECTION – PART 2 posted at KuberKhana -Indian Stock Fundamental Analysis, saying, “A discussion on how to select stocks through fundamental analysis,” while Praveen looks at two recently featured Stocks: ATVI and WOOF posted at My Simple Trading System, in his analysis of two growth stocks. With the recent gains in oil pricing, though, The Investor looks at How to invest in oil posted at Monevator.com, saying, “Alternative assets can diversify your portfolio and boost your returns. Here’s how to gear up by investing in oil ahead of a resurgent global economy.” Of course, purchasing any stocks or commodities is a risky activity, so do your due diligence.

Making Money Online

Having had a little success on Amazon, I was intrigued by this article: ChristianPF presents Step-by-step guide to selling books on Amazon and actually make some money! posted at Money in the Bible | Christian Personal Finance Blog, saying, “Many newbies try to sell on Amazon only to LOSE money. If you follow these tips you will sell your items quicker and with more of a profit!” Then Emilio Guarino looks at Legitimate Ways to Make Quick Money on Craigslist: The No Overhead Moving Company posted at Big Fiddlin’ Time, saying, “quick money that pays a significant amount per week.” Finally, riswan presents How To Earn Money From Video Game Website posted at Easy Ways To Make Money From Blog And Get Profit, saying, “Video games in fact is a billion dollar industry. Business

If you are a business owner or planning to buy a business, Kevin Blank asks Should I Buy an Existing Business posted at Integrity First Associates, Inc Blog, saying, “Buying an existing business could actually be the safest bet when it comes to owning your own business.” Once you have bought or set up a business, MoneyNing advises business owners in these challenging times on the Side Hustle, Self Employed, Entrepreneurship posted at Money Ning, saying, “There are really not many overnight successes. Work hard and take it one step at a time!” And Ian Richardson presents Marketing Techniques Are More Important Than You Think posted at Make Everything EzyAs123, saying, “On the surface, most marketing campaigns appear alike. They mainly rely on the same advertising vehicles, involve the same types of agencies and tend to cost a fair amount of money no matter what. Why is it then that some campaigns turn companies into near overnight successes and others just fail to make the grade?” Without marketing, what business can survive? Of course, there comes a time to sell most businesses, Patrick @ Cash Money Life presents When Should You Sell Your Small Business? posted at Cash Money Life, saying, “Should you sell your profitable online business? If so, when?”

And if you’re interested in having your blog featured, remember to … submit your own work ONCE only, with a suitable comment to the carnival. Chances are you’ll be accepted. It always amazes me how many people fail to follow that simple rule.

Good luck to you all,

Kenneth from Carnival of Making REAL Money
